Congressional Staffer Visits The Farm

The Farm Place was pleased to host a tour for a representative of Congressman Jim Banks, who represents Indiana’s 3rd District. Board members Levi King, Marge Malone, and Keith James escorted Landon Porter through the newly-built 3,500-square-foot foster care home located just north of LaGrange.

Also in attendance was Sarah Miller, who has provided foster care for children in LaGrange, Steuben, and Noble counties over the past 6½ years. Sarah operates a “clothes club” which makes children’s clothes available for foster families when their foster care clothing allowance isn’t enough.

Topics discussed included how the idea for The Farm was conceived, funding for the land and foster care residence, and future plans which include a barn with office space and a lodge. The Farm’s goal is to aid in providing a place for compassionate care for children affected by the incarceration of their parents. Also discussed were the sobering statistics on drug abuse and the need for child foster care services in northeast Indiana.

Mr. Porter said, “The Farm is a testament to what a community can accomplish when they come together around a common goal. It was great to be able to tour and see the potential of what The Farm can offer to the children who will soon be passing through it’s doors. Congressman Banks is excited to see the continued positive impact The Farm and it’s board members will have on LaGrange County and northeast Indiana as a whole.”

Jim Banks represents Indiana’s 3rd District, which includes all four counties The Farm Place serves (LaGrange, Steuben, DeKalb, and Noble). The Farm Place is very happy to have his support in our endeavors.
