Visitors Get First Peek at New Foster Care Home
The Farm Place held its open house on November 13, 2019, giving the public a first look at the newly-built foster care home in LaGrange.
Nearly a hundred visitors came to see the 3,500-square-foot home which features eight bedrooms, three bathrooms, handicap accessibility, a sprawling front porch, and a walk-out basement. Snacks were donated by Foltz Bakery and volunteers served coffee and apple cider on a chilly November day. Joanna and Levi King used a transport van donated by The Blue Gate Restaurant to shuttle visitors from a nearby parking area to the Farm Place.
The home is situated on 10-1/2 acres just north of LaGrange on IN 9 and was purchased by The Farm Place Inc. for the purpose of housing a foster family in a farm-like setting. Children uprooted by the incarceration of their parents would find a place of healing through foster care, supervised visitation, and animal companionship. A search is currently underway to find a suitable foster family to inhabit the home.
A fundraising auction in August raised more than $50,000 toward the next phase of the project, which is building a barn and office space on the property. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2020.
