Sleep in Heavenly Peace Donates Ten Beds

From an article in the February 28, 2020 issue of the LaGrange News:

Since October 2018, Sherilyn and Randy Lackey of LaGrange in addition to other volunteers have built and assembled 190 beds associated with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The reason? Lackey says, “We don’t want any child sleeping in a bad situation. We fully believe that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. When it was brought to our attention that the need for beds went far beyond our own neighborhoods, we stepped up and took initiative. We’re a national organization answering the call to a national problem.

All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. In Indiana and across the U.S., too many boys and girls go without a bed – or even a pillow – to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and health.”

This past weekend Lackey and her husband, along with several Farm Project volunteers, assembled 10 beds. These beds will remain in the foster home in LaGrange. The Farm is a non-profit whose mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and restorative place for children in need through animal companionship and other therapeutic methods. For more information about The Farm go to the website, farmplace.org.

The Sleep In Heavenly Peace non-profit will supply a bed if two criteria are met: 1. Age must be between 3-17; and 2. Have an uncomfortable situation. Lackey states the biggest reward is when they know a parent or child realizes someone still cares. Sleep in Heavenly Peace donated 10 beds to The Farm. Bed frames, mattress, sheets, pillow cases, and a bed spread. The beds and accessories cost $150.00 and Sleep in Heavenly Peace is fully funded by donations. Christmas and the winter months are the busiest. When they get a call Lackey states, “we go”.
